If you live in Vancouver or any part of British Columbia or even Alberta for that matter, it would be a real shame if you don’t explore what this Province has to offer. Aside from spectacular North Shore Mountains, oceans, beaches, it is home to various renounced vineyards. Take a road trip to the Okanagan and Summerland to soak in all the rays, the vino and abundance of relaxation. Our team took a drive out for a much needed staycation and to enjoy a few estate wineries like Sumac Ridge Estate Winery Okanagan.

Let’s have a look starting with Sumac Ridge Estate Winery  located in Summerland, BC with their food and wine matching, virtual tour and awards list. They have a fine reputation for its Gewurztraminer, Merlot, and Meritage.

Established in the heart of Okanagan Wine Country, Sumac Ridge Estate Winery is located on Highway 97 just north of the charming lakeside town of Summerland, British Columbia. The winery has been dedicated to producing 100% British Columbia grown wines since its inception.

Sumac Ridge is the oldest operating estate winery in British Columbia and founder Harry McWatters is one of the most seasoned executives in the industry. In 2006 McWatters will complete his 38th vintage and will celebrate the winery’s 27th vintage.

At the Summerland winery site, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and Riesling grapes are grown on a vineyard sloping towards Lake Okanagan. Further south is Black Sage Vineyard, a 115-acre vineyard in Oliver (in the south Okanagan) where such noble red varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are grown in addition to a number of white varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay. The winery augments its own supply of grapes from other respected vineyards throughout the south Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys.

We arrived after a long drive from Vancouver and we were dying to cool down from the heat. We were greeted with a large sign and a field of vines on the left and the winery and showroom to the right. Old retired wine barrels stocked outside were to be used as flower pots and what not.

Note that they are open year round from 9:30am to 6:00pm daily. The best way to book a tour  is either via their website or give them a call 250.494.0451. Our tour began with an introduction of the estate winery and we were given samples of red, white and roses along the way. We got to explore the inner cellars, learnt how the wines were made (in a condensed, summarized version) and got to sample more vinos. Some mixed with popcorn, oeuvres, and desserts. Some areas were off limits to film and cameras while other times we were just to busy enjoying our glass while trying to keep pace with the tour guide that a full photo portfolio is hard to obtain. The tour was informative and were friendly and knowledgeable to answer our many questions.

After the tour, we toured their show room where a large selection of wines, cookbooks and accessories were on for sale. Great gift ideas!

There were a lot of great wines and at the end of the day it really depends on your taste buds to evaluate what sits well on your palate and the degree of dryness you prefer. For me, I absolutely adore their Gewurztraminer 2009 and 2011 Reverses. I love the lychee, spice and grapefruit. The citrus and grapefruit continue on the lengthy finish with hints of spice to round out this balanced beauty. I had to take a few home. Of courses, you can always order it online (hail deliveries within BC)  and your local BC Liquor Stores!

Next, we were off to Mission Hill Winery Estate

Canella Bellini: This delicious blend of two parts sparkling wine, one part white peach juice and a few drops of wild raspberry is the epitome of summer. This Italian varietal of Prosecco is from the Veneto regions. Do not stored this long to enjoy its well balanced fragrance (I don’t think I would have a problem finishing this quickly)!

Okanagan Crush Pad: Another favorite for the evening was the Haywire The Bub with fermented and aged Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. This British Columbian Wine with vineyard in Oliver and Summerland, Okanagan, produces fresh, lively wine with warm bread aromas and a crisp green apple finish.

The Narrative XC Method on the other hand is dark with toasty. creamy notes with a medium bodied mouthfeel. FYI: XC is the roman numeral for 90, this wine lays in contact with the lees for a minimum of 90 days.

Bouchon Bakery Napa Valley | Yountville Macarons x Almond Croissant

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][image_with_animation image_url=”13396″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][vc_column_text]How can one visit San Francisco and not take a trip down to Napa Valley? Any how can one go to Napa Valley and not visit Yountville? Afterall, this is where Thomas Keller’s famous restaurant The French Laundry, Bouchon, Bouchon Bakery, and Ad Hoc are located. Each within steps of one another.

Napa Valley is a gorgeous place much like SummerlandOkanagan, BC. The autumn crisp air and changing colored leaves are dreamy. It makes having an almond croissant and a coffee outside on the patio that much more enjoyable![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][image_with_animation image_url=”13398″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][vc_column_text]Bouchon Bakery in Napa Valley Yountville is in the heart of California. This bakery started as a production facility to produce bread and pastries to Thomas Keller’s restaurants. It soon became a standalone French Style Bakery!

It produces some extraordinary confections: bread, baguettes, croissants, macarons, tarts, chocolate delicacies. I am seriously considering moving to Yountville![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][image_with_animation image_url=”13400″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][image_with_animation image_url=”13380″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][image_with_animation image_url=”13383″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][divider line_type=”No Line”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][image_with_animation image_url=”13382″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][image_with_animation image_url=”13380″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][image_with_animation image_url=”13390″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][vc_column_text]Have a seat in the garden patio next to Bouchon after deciding on what tasty treat to indulge in.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][image_with_animation image_url=”13386″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][vc_column_text]Almond Croissant with almond cream: The croissant was super buttery and moist inside with many layers. It crunched and crackled with eat bite.

As Pierre Herme would have it, you “should hear the croissant suffer!” The almond cream had grainy bits. It is perfect for texture. The croissant was semi-sweet and was incredibly fragrant! It has a bright, sweet-tart finishing.  No artificial flavoring.
