Dai Tung Chinese Restaurant 大同海鮮酒家 has been around as long as I can remember. Located in East Vancouver along Kingsway / Knight St, Dai Tung is known for their Hainan chicken. We came here for an early dinner and already the place was packed and parking was scarce. I really despise the mall and their tight parking spaces. Service here is slow and not always the friendliest.
Hainan Chicken: A proportioned bird with lean meat and fat that turned jelly after its cold bath. The seasoning is thorough and not too salty.
Fried Bean Curd with Seasonal Greens: Like puff pastry, the bean curd was airy and not too greasy. Tossed in some oyster sauce with some shitake mushrooms, chinese mushrooms, chives and carrots.
Stir Fried Beef Lettuce Wrap: A simple comfort dish with fried vermicelli for some texture. A good alternative to the lettuce wraps from Beijing Duck.
Claypot Cod with Garlic: Flash fried and soy marinated with garlic cloves, ginger and other aromatics in hot claypot.
Dessert of the Day: Taro and sago with barley. A chill sweet soup for a rather hot day.
Dai Tung Chinese Restaurant is a reasonably priced restaurant that is relatively clean. While service isn’t always great, at least the food is consistent for a comfort family meal.
