How can something so apparent be so hidden at the same time? Surround by top Asian cuisine, Felicos Restaurant Richmond one of my favorite Greek restaurants in Richmond. The owner did a fantastic job in creating a sense of serenity in the bustle of Leslie and Alexander Street. As you enter the restaurant, there is a gate resembling a house where potted plants are placed to welcome you into the restaurant.
Once inside, you’ll continue to notice that Felico’s did not skip out on the ambience. You walk into a gorgeous blue marble bar, where the greeting host would guide you into the restaurant. It’s Tuesday night and even though you are not expecting to wait for a table, you stand there wondering about the quiet night. More people should know about this restaurant. Is Greek cuisine so hidden while surrounded by the Asian giants?
We were seated by the window, and the dim lighting gave me a sense of romance with my other half. We proceeded to look at the menu and made our selection.
Crab Cakes: golden brown crab cakes sitting on roasted red pepper pesto. The warm pesto was light to taste. The crab cakes were not overdone. We can get a sense of freshness, which is rare considering a lot of crab cakes are frozen.
Spanakopita: Crispy pastry wrapping spinach, feta cheese, and onions. Pastry held together nicely as we cut the roll in half. The warm spinach and feta cheese had a kick aided by the onions.
Kalamaria: Deep fried squid served with satziki sauce. It comes with roasted potatoes, rice, and Greek Salad. This dish holds an important place in my heart as far as Greek cuisine goes. This is as good as I had it for the first time. I also look for freshness in the Greek Salad. Some would say it’s easy to serve Greek salad, I don’t disagree. The difficulty is how to maintain that consistency day in and out.
Kleftico: Slowly roasted lamb served in mustard sauce. The lamb was so soft and broke apart on the first cut. The first bite is always refreshing with juiciness, as sauce was absorbed into the protein. It came with their house special mint sauce but the lamb was so good, I rather keep that on the minimal.
This is so confusing, this restaurant needs attention. A beautiful space, excellent customer service, and quality dishes deserves to b e known.
In conclusion of my visit. I wish I could be outside Felico’s with a sandwich board, and let everyone know that there’s more than Asian Cuisine on Alexandra Rd. I like change, and I love choices. Start making a different choice today, you’ll be pleasantly surprised about what you find. Until next time Felico’s.
