Have you ever been inspired by a cookbook, and you look down to the ingredients and it’s asking for 2 tablespoons of red sea salt from Mount Mordor. (I just made that up btw) You go to your local super market and you ask the 15 year old clerk and he has no idea what you are talking about. Well, you can probably find it at Gourmet Warehouse located on East Hastings.

Gourmet Warehouse started in 1998 by Caren McSherry. (Business owner, cookbook author, etc) They were in the back streets of Hastings, right beside my parents business. I never understood why this business in the back streets was driving so much traffic. I finally understood when I walked into the new location.
As you can see in the pictures, they have a massive inventory of the products they feature. You can find the finest kitchen and bath products here. The staffs are quite knowledgeable and friendly.
As Mario Batali always stress on the importance of olive oil and its quality. Gourmet Warehouse stocks the finest olive oil from all over the world.
The many types of dried pasta.
Gourmet pasta sauce
Various sauces and pickled products.
Sodas (we had the root beer)
Aside from shopping, they offer cooking classes or you can rent the kitchen for functions as well. I think everyone should check this place out. It doesn’t matter if you are an inspired chef or doesn’t know how to cook at all. Gourmet Warehouse has something for everyone.
