Jules Bistro Vancouver is local French restaurant in Gastown – 216 Abbott St. We spent a little afternoon at this neighborhood gem over some Foie gras, Lobster & prawn bisque with croutons, rouille and gruyere cheese and Escargots bourguignonne with garlic and parsley butter. We were seated by the window just as we had remembered. It’s amazing how lively and charming Gastown gets when the sun is out. I’m so glad the rainy stretch is behind us!

Lobster and Prawn Bisque 14:  Rich and velvety concentrated flavors. Don’t be mistaken by the small bowl it can be filling. Served with croutons, rouille and gruyere cheese.

Foie Gras: Special of the day. A generous portion of creamy foie gras and served with toast.

Escargots 8.50: Meaty snails in bourguignonne with garlic and parsley butter. Don’t forget to dip some bread into the butter sauce!

Moules Frites 21: Special of the day was mussels steamed in chili pepper broth. I like the subtle heat. The mussels were plump and meaty. I think this just as much as their white wine, garlic and parsley broth.

Brome Lake Duck Leg Confit 23.50: Tender and moist duck served with fingerling potatoes, frisee salad, bacon & roasted pine nuts.

Roasted Pineapple 8.50: The sound of roasted pineapple as dessert may sound a little strange. But this is a surprisingly delicious sweet treat. Warm juicy pineapple makes it less tart and sugary. It is served with gingerbread ice cream and star anise syrup.

Vanilla Crème Brûlée 8.50: A classic dessert with lots of vanilla bean. I like it is not mildly sweet and very creamy custard with a nice crunchy torched brown sugar top.

We like the casual and welcoming atmosphere at Jules. There is a good selection of traditional dishes and cocktails. The food came prompt and the service was attentive.
