What a great way to start off the day with Rocanini Coffee Roaster, Steveston, Richmond. Tucked away in Steveston Richmond, this is not your on your way to work, quick, easy, cheap, grab and go’ coffee shop. I’ve passed by this coffee shop for over a year now, I was dying to try it.
You might begin to know me as the weekend warrior food critic. What I am also a big fan of is interior design and decor. Heck, I even have an art degree in college. From the exterior, the welcome sign is an industrial look which is a perfect use of the building and surroundings of Steveston. The interior space is featured and highlighted with huge windows from top to bottom.
Rocanini, Richmond. As you walk in, you are amazed by the large open space that you see outside. The first thing you will probably notice is the long communal table, chandelier, and most importantly, the consistency of tones. I’m sure there are a lot of restaurants and coffee shops that spent more money on their interior design than Rocanini. The statement I want to make is money doesn’t buy taste.
We came in with a mission to try the unique types of coffee Rocanini has to offer. The first coffee we picked was Cafe Cortado. Simply, this popular drink from Latin America is an espresso with a small amount of milk to reduce the level of acidity. My take on this drink is that it’s rich in flavour that goes down very smoothly. Hope our readers have an opportunity to try this. From my understanding, it is a special of the week.
The second drink is a macchiato. No… This isn’t the caramel macchiato with a tall half-skinny half-1 percent extra hot split quad shot (two shots decaf, two shots regular) with 5 cubes of ice you get from Starbucks. In fact, I don’t know if they are willing to customize it for you, at least I wouldn’t. What’s interesting about this drink is it comes with a small class of Pellegrino. You take a sip of the strong, bold flavored macchiato, then immediately sip the Pellegrino. The contrast is amazing beyond my willingness to describe, go try it for yourself.
Lastly, we enjoyed a lemon meringue pie. I have to be honest and say I’m not a huge sweet tooth, which is exactly why I love this particular pie. Not to sweet, with a creamy filling. It is a perfect complement to the bold flavors of our coffee.
Then you have the apple tart, a graham grumble heaven with apples that are unfortunately a little too prepackaged and the caramel drizzle a little too starchy. Definitely not comparable to the lemon meringue.
In conclusion, Rocanini is an exact representation of Steveston. You do not come here for convenience. This is your little daily getaway from the city. I strongly recommend this escape for those who had a stressful day.
