The Westin Grand Hotel Vancouver is a convenient hotel on the corner of Homer Street and Robson Street. The Westin Grand has comfortable beds. I’ve stayed here previously for work conferences / training and have always found it pleasant. This time we came here for Happy Hour at the Pop Up Patio. Every Thursday and Friday 5pm – 9pm, The Westin Grand transforms their poolside deck into a summer garden with music from their live DJ. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious. What I like about this place is that it is upbeat but not too overly crowded.
Executive Chef Chris Savino created menu that is served from a BBQ station. Cocktails are handcrafted from Hidden Tasting Bar & Social Lounge. We particularly enjoyed our little escape courtesy of our friends at Motive Communications and Vancity Buzz. The Westin Grand Pop Up Patio is a good place to unwind after work. On this particular Happy Hour we ordered a few drinks
NEGRONI 10: Gin, Campari, Sweet Vermouth. There is something about Friday Bitters that eases me into the weekend.
CRISPY TUNA SUSHI ROLLS 14: Nori aioli, red and green tobiko, avocado, cucumbers, albacore tuna, sweet soy, pickled ginger. This was a heavy roll and I would prefer more fish and less rice. Otherwise, it is pretty good to soak up some alcohol.
CARAMELIZED CHICKEN WINGS 12: Chicken wings caramelized with home-made sweet chili sauce, pickled daikon slaw. This was one of my favorite dishes from the Pop Up Patio. The wings are crispy and the sauce is not too salty.
DUCK SALAD ROLL 12: Mini Vietnamese salad rolls with shredded duck meat, white tiger prawns, rice noodles, caramelized orange and tomato relish, hoi sin sauce.
RAW ALBACORE TUNA POKE 16: My least favorite of all the dishes. The heavy marinaded with sesame and curry powder completely covered the freshness and flavor of the tuna. A simple ceviche would have better done this fish justice.
BLOODY CAESAR 9: Finlandia Vodka, Clamato, Tabasco, Worcestershire
SPIKED SNOW CONES 8: Come summer, all Dave can even talk about is getting a Slurpee. So it only makes sense that we ordered him a Spiked Lemonade – Finlandia Vodka, Limoncello, Lemonade
