Fishermans Terrace Seafood Restaurant 釣魚台海鮮酒家 is a nice restaurant located inside Aberdeen Mall in Richmond. There are plenty of parking (that is if you are able to maneuver around all the Asian mommies)! Reservations are highly recommended as they are constantly busy throughout the day.
Shrimp and Spinach Dumpling: Eats like a traditional shrimp dumpling just with some added veggies and shaped differently.
Steamed Black Bean Chicken Feet: flash fried and then marinated in bold flavors.
Minced Fish Paste Chinese Donut rice roll: a soft center with some added crunch from the deep fried chinese donut.
Steamed Beef Balls: Well proportioned minced beef and green peas. Flavors are light and has a bouncy texture.
Steamed Pork Dumpling: Minced pork mixed with shrimp and Chinese mushrooms wrapped with thin skin.
Deep Fried Taro Ball: Mashed taro deep fried with a flaky blanket. One of my favorites.
Pan Fried Radish Cake: Comfort food. A great side dish especially if you are having congee.
Ginger and Scallion Steamed Chicken Bun: If you are tired of BBQ pork buns, this is a nice alternative. Equally as juicy and tasty!

Dragon View Chinese Cuisine 龍景軒 in Richmond is one of my favorite dim sum hang outs. It is affiliated with Wah Wing in Coquitlam but the food here on a higher caliber. It is located in Continental Plaza where Pearl Castle 圓香茶坊, Yuu Japanese Tapas, Gyo-O Japanese Restaurant, Deer Garden Signature and Sing Yee Chinese Restaurant also reside. Dragon View is always busy and reservations are expected if you wish to be seated quickly. We must be very lucky, because we usually don’t have to wait too long even without a rsvp. Service here is friendly, prompt and the environment is clean.
The interior has been renovated since it’s old name. It is well lit and also a crowd favorite among wedding parties. There is a good variety of dim sum selections and several large LED TV’s to entice you with features. We’ve order a few extra plates because of this subliminal messaging.
Steamed Black Bean Spareribs: Tender and deeply marinated with a slight chew. I like how they had a good meat to bone ratio.
Garlic Stir Fried Mustard Greens: A distinct horseradish-mustard flavor with bite. There is a nice crunch and leaves to hold the flavors. Well cooked without being too old.
XO Sauce Pan Fried Radish Cake: This radish cake is my favorite (just like my love for Jade Seafood 玉庭軒魚翅海鮮酒家. Slightly crispy exterior with a warm soft center. Garnished with bean sprouts and chives.
Steamed Pork Meat and Peanuts: A steamed dumpling with bite and crunch. Peanuts give a nice fragrant and pork minced meat is cooked just right and moist.
Sliced Fish Congee (bowl): Enough to feed for bowls each or fresh fish slices de-boned. Served with roasted peanuts, preserved vegetables and chives.
Sometimes we definitely over order and have to doggy bag home most of the food.
Steamed Beef Balls: Three giant minced beef balls made with fresh watercress bits that absorbs the flavor during steaming and provides a crunchy texture within each bite. Served with a side of worcestershire sauce for dipping.
Steamed Pork Dumpling Siu Mai: A nice juicy pork dumpling with an awesome big cold-water shrimp and tobiko on top.
So if you are wondering who those two crazy Asian couple are with a table full of food. Come say hi, it could be us!

Kings Chinese Cuisine Vancouver 大煌 is located 4488 Main Street (cross-street 29th Ave). We were gathering for lunch after Church. Initially wanting to go to Kirin (on Cambie), but decided to give this place a try after reading some decent reviews on Urbanspoon (88%) and Yelp (3.5 stars)…. To be honest I felt a little ripped off.
Kings Chinese Cuisine Vancouver is very much a dive. If driving by it could easily be missed if you are expecting a grand facade. However, the bold orange hippie paint job will definitely distract you. The place is small and extremely busy – kids, servers and furniture collide. With its “modest” decor, it somewhat reminds me of a first generation Chinese owned restaurant in the early 70s/80s – sort of like Kam Gook Yuen in Chinatown – Beat up and requires a reconstructive face lift. The pictures are a bit deceiving because it actually looks a lot better on camera than in person…
Proportionately sized. Greasy. Nothing special.
Shrimp Dumpling – soggy and wet. The skin was thick, mushy and completely fell apart.
A lot of the food that were brought out didn’t look entirely appetizing. Some were decent and tasted not bad. You have to pick your battles.
The Siu Mais (Pork Dumplings) were a bit tough… The Soup Dumpling XLB in the background was soggy and thick skinned. We joked that perhaps they were made from cardboard pulp!
I think the best was perhaps the pan fried shrimp eggplant.

Wah Wing Szechuan Restaurant 華榮川菜館 is located in Coquitlam on Lougheed Highway and Westwood. Since Kirin Coquitlam closed its doors back in October 2011, there has been a serious lack of dim sum choices. Wah Wing is hardly new and has been around forever and the place […]
Jade Seafood Restaurant is located in Richmond, BC – a city where amazing Chinese food congregate. With so many choices, sometimes it’s hard to find a stunning restaurant. But never fear, Jade is located close to the airport on Alexandra Road with plenty of free parking. Considered one of the more upscale Chinese restaurants, prices are slightly more expensive than the others; however, you get what you pay for and the quality is consistent with some outstanding items on the menu.
Generally when you come for dim sum you can expect to see the general culprits such as Shrimp Dumplings, Siu Mais, Steam Spareribs and the like so I’m not going to bother review these. Just note that they are delicious and high quality.
What is notable at Jade is that their head chef Tony Luk is the recipient winner of the 2011 HSBC Chinese Restaurant Awards– battling competition among the best-of-the-best Chinese restos in Metro Vancouver. I come here a lot and sometimes it is so second nature that I forget to do my homework and blog about it. By far my utter most favourite dim sum dish here is their Steamed Mushroom Dumplings.
Steamed Mushroom Dumplings $4.48
A medley of wild enoki, shiitake, oyster and Chinese mushrooms. This is one for their signature award winning items. The dumpling skin itself is thin enough that the mushrooms are slightly opaque and doesn’t break apart when you handle it. Unsure if there is actually truffle oil inside, but the aroma certainly is intoxicating!
A delicious hot flaky mini pastry pie filled with mushrooms and cream sauce. Similar to the Steamed Mushroom Dumpling, this baby tingles your taste buds with mushrooms. Creamy. Flaky. Hot and not oily. A modern fusion twist done right!
Stir Fried Radish Cake in Hot Sauce $6.99
What’s nice about these cubed radish cakes is that they are stir fried all on sides – leaving none soft / soggy. The hot sauce wraps these beautifully adding a little spice. Edamames are great for picking!
Steamed Crab Meat Dumpling $4.88
Steamed Fish Maw Stuffed with Shrimp Paste $4.88
Fish maw = fish stomach. Sounds gross? The price of fish maw is far from cheap and it’s one of the luxury ingredients in Chinese cuisine. It takes a lot of work to prepare; especially done correctly! Spongy in texture and absorbs the essence of egg whites, shrimp paste with a bit of added tobiko on top!
Dried Squid Minced Pork Hot Pot Steamed Rice 6.99
Hot pot steamed rice captures the flavour of all the ingredients – dried squid and minced pork. The hot pot chards the rice and gives it a crispy crunch. Sprinkled with roasted peanuts! Don’t forget to mix in some soy sauce!
Fried Bean Curd Fish Paste Rice Roll $5.38
Slightly different from your routine cannoli rice rolls. Fresh fish paste is encased within the fried bean curd (this replaces the traditional Chinese donut), then wrapped with rice roll and steamed. This creates a multi-dimensional texture – soft, crispy, and elastic freshness. Definitely one of the must order Chinese dim sum dishes. Served with side Hoisin / Sesame dipping sauce.
Minced beef balls with watercress steamed. Fresh watercress bits absorbs the flavor of the seasoned beef balls during steaming and provides a crunchy texture within the soft beef balls. Served with a side of worcestershire sauce for dipping.
There are so many speciality Chinese dim sum dishes that we often don’t allow ourselves to savor. A lot of times it to requirement to get over that ‘mental block’ of trying a new ingredient; but if you open your eyes, there are so many beyond the Ha Gaw and Siu Mai’s…
