Miradoro Restaurant at Tinhorn Creek Winery Okanagan | Best Winery Vineyard Dining

Beringer Vineyards, Napa Valley (St Helena)

Beringer Vineyards in St. Helena, Napa Valley. The Beringer winery dates back to 1875 by two Germany brothers Jacob and Frederick Beringer. It is one of the larger winery in Napa Valley and the oldest continuously operating in Napa Valley. The tasting room is located in a grand Victorian mansion with tours of the historic wine caves daily. Beringer Vineyards is no longer owned and operated by the family, but instead after being sold to Nestle in 1971, it is now owned by Treasury Wine Estates.

Beringer Vineyard is grand with a gated entrance and a short drive into the estate. There are two separate tasting rooms: Old Winery, and Reserve Tasting Room.

There was a special chocolate tasting flight with their fine reds. We were still a bit full from Wine Spectator Greystone Restaurant at CIA, so we opted for just a flight of winery exclusives.

2012 Riesling: intense flavors of apricot, citrus, and a hint of freshly grated ginger. This wine is refreshing and sweet.

2011 Sangiovese – 3 Acre Knight Valley: A blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. This wine had intense fruit flavors of cherry and notes of cola, cardamom and a pop of wild fennel. This was the driest of the three selection and was closest to a Shiraz. I did not particularly enjoy this glass and found it chalky. Perhaps it is the cardamom I’m not a fan of.

2011 Chardonnay Stanly Ranch: I feel that lately I gravitate more towards white vino instead of my go to Shiraz. Perhaps it is the heat. This blanc was full of citrus flavors and minerals with a creamy smooth finish. I liked this one most.

After our flight in the Old Winery Tasting Room, we headed to the Reserve Tasting Room. Disappointed there wasn’t anyone there. We were told earlier that November was the tail end of their busy season as autumn approached.

Beringer Vineyard is beautiful with the changing colors of autumn leaves that we couldn’t help ourselves to a few photos. Beringer Vineyards makes for a great photo shoot location, that we took a few engagement photos along the way. You will need to wait to see those while we plan out our wedding details.

We left cloudy San Francisco to find our way to Napa Valley where the leaves were red, yellow, orange and gold. Though the skies turned from blue to grey, we arrived at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena. This is a branch […]

If you live in Vancouver or any part of British Columbia or even Alberta for that matter, it would be a real shame if you don’t explore what this Province has to offer. Aside from spectacular North Shore Mountains, oceans, beaches, it is home to various renounced vineyards. Take a road trip to the Okanagan and Summerland to soak in all the rays, the vino and abundance of relaxation. Our team took a drive out for a much needed staycation and to enjoy a few estate wineries like Sumac Ridge Estate Winery Okanagan.

Let’s have a look starting with Sumac Ridge Estate Winery  located in Summerland, BC with their food and wine matching, virtual tour and awards list. They have a fine reputation for its Gewurztraminer, Merlot, and Meritage.

Established in the heart of Okanagan Wine Country, Sumac Ridge Estate Winery is located on Highway 97 just north of the charming lakeside town of Summerland, British Columbia. The winery has been dedicated to producing 100% British Columbia grown wines since its inception.

Sumac Ridge is the oldest operating estate winery in British Columbia and founder Harry McWatters is one of the most seasoned executives in the industry. In 2006 McWatters will complete his 38th vintage and will celebrate the winery’s 27th vintage.

At the Summerland winery site, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and Riesling grapes are grown on a vineyard sloping towards Lake Okanagan. Further south is Black Sage Vineyard, a 115-acre vineyard in Oliver (in the south Okanagan) where such noble red varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are grown in addition to a number of white varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay. The winery augments its own supply of grapes from other respected vineyards throughout the south Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys.

We arrived after a long drive from Vancouver and we were dying to cool down from the heat. We were greeted with a large sign and a field of vines on the left and the winery and showroom to the right. Old retired wine barrels stocked outside were to be used as flower pots and what not.

Note that they are open year round from 9:30am to 6:00pm daily. The best way to book a tour  is either via their website or give them a call 250.494.0451. Our tour began with an introduction of the estate winery and we were given samples of red, white and roses along the way. We got to explore the inner cellars, learnt how the wines were made (in a condensed, summarized version) and got to sample more vinos. Some mixed with popcorn, oeuvres, and desserts. Some areas were off limits to film and cameras while other times we were just to busy enjoying our glass while trying to keep pace with the tour guide that a full photo portfolio is hard to obtain. The tour was informative and were friendly and knowledgeable to answer our many questions.

After the tour, we toured their show room where a large selection of wines, cookbooks and accessories were on for sale. Great gift ideas!

There were a lot of great wines and at the end of the day it really depends on your taste buds to evaluate what sits well on your palate and the degree of dryness you prefer. For me, I absolutely adore their Gewurztraminer 2009 and 2011 Reverses. I love the lychee, spice and grapefruit. The citrus and grapefruit continue on the lengthy finish with hints of spice to round out this balanced beauty. I had to take a few home. Of courses, you can always order it online (hail deliveries within BC)  and your local BC Liquor Stores!

Next, we were off to Mission Hill Winery Estate
